Mammoth

The slow and steady wheat for early sowing options

Key features

  • Very slow maturing APW* spring wheat with excellent yield potential when sown within its optimal window in medium to high rainfall environments.
  • MAMOTH’s unique phenology makes it an excellent option for an early break scenario, suited to sowing from early April through to late April. Its maturity is slightly quicker than Illabo.
  • Unlike winter wheats that have similar maturity, MAMMOTH does not have the same vernalisation requirement. This allows MAMMOTH to continue to develop using day length rather than needing low temperature to trigger flowering like winter varieties need. As a result, Mammoth can respond to seasonal conditions and minimise frost risk. Learn more about MAMMOTH’s unique phenology demonstrated in the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development’s Wheat Agronomy sowing time response 2022 and 2023 trials below.
  • Good all-round disease resistance profile including good yellow spot (MRMSp) and stripe rust (MRMSp – WA pathotype, MSSp – east coast pathotype) resistance
  • When sown within its optimal window, MAMMOTH has an adequate physical grain quality package. However, when sown outside very early sowing windows, it may produce higher levels of screenings
  • EPR $3.50/t ex GST

*MAMMOTH is classified as APW in the Western and Southern zones.

MAMMOTH is available from Seedclub members, resellers and through farmer to farmer trade.
